Drilling steam holes to early Ford 289/302 block when using aluminum heads.

The information about drilling the steam holes in the block is very unclear.
Ive done some investigation and came to the conclusion that 2 holes has to be drilled.
1 to the #1 cylinder about 1 oclock and one at #5 cylinder at 1 oclock.
If you dont drill theese holes there is a possibility that steam will be trapped inside the block and you get so called hot spots. You can also drill all 8 holes to each of the cylinders if you wish but that isnt necessary. The reason to why it isnt necessary to drill all 8 is that the motor is leaning back a little and the highest point of the block is no 1 and 5 cylinder.
Use the cylinder head gasket as a template and mark the hole tapp the mark and use a 1/8" or 3mm bore.
Note the markings on the cylinder head gasket (front) its important that you put them on correctly.
Use a HQ drill , its about ½" thick material to bore. Be careful when the drill is just about to break through otherwise the drill can snap.

Steam hole drilled up to the right about 1 oclock 1/8" or 3mm.
