Cougar is based on the mustang chassi with a streched wheel base.
Lots of parts is interchangeable with Mustang and other Fords.

The motor option for Cougar was a V8 only, no six cylinder was offered.

Standard transmission was 3 speed manual, but very few was delivered with this option.
Most of the cars were ordered with automatic transmission C6 or FMX.
Also the 4 speed manual transmission was an option, ( less than 100) very rare.

The difference from the -69 Cougar (same body) recognizes best in the front. Hood and grille is modified.

Due to the low production number of Clevelands 1970-1974 often seller claims they are selling a Cleveland.
But in fact a lot of them is a 351M (modified).
It isnt easy to tell the difference straight away between 351C and 351M.
You have to check the id numbers to be sure.
The most desireable 351C-4V is the 1970 cast.
Because of the high compression and closed chambers it was the highest Hp 351C.
1971- the Hp dropped becase of lower compression due to enviromental and insurance demands.
Also the oil crisis killed the Muscle car era.

3 spoke steering wheel w rimblow horn, walnut bezels in dash, leather seats and other luxury options like low fuel warning light, seat belt warning light, door warning light.

The Standard had 2 spoke steering wheel, wood grain bezels, vinyl seats.
The Eliminator was the sport package with stripes, scoop, spoiler in front and back, blacked out grille, right hand sports mirror blacked out interior and dash, 2 spoke steering wheel. No chrome fender lip mouldings or rocker mouldings. Also a special paint special for the Eliminator: Competition- yellow, green, blue, gold, orange.

The motor choises was several: 302 Boss, 351W/C-4V, 428CJ. Transmission choise was both automatic and manual.
Not all Eliminators is a true Muscle Car (302 Boss/351C/428 w man trans.). But if you find one buy it, they are rare.

The only way to determine what Cougar you have or going to buy is to do a Marti Report. Write down the VIN-number and you will get all information.
There is a lot of Eliminator clones out there, nice ones to but not rare. As mentioned, there were no convertibles built as Eliminator, not either a Eliminator with vinyl roof.
