The popular Eliminator style hood scoop.
There is aftermarket scoops with correct boltpattern and there is another type with wrong boltpattern.
West Coast Classic Cougars sells the aftermarket with correct bolt pattern named "Premium".
Premium have the correct 10 studs, and the other one have 9 studs.
The lenght of the scoops is also slightly different.
The back edge of the scoop should sit 2" to 2 5/8 (depending if you have the correct bolt pattern scoop or not),
from the back edge of the hood.
Look on the underside of your hood.
On the inner bracing around the center you will see 6 2/8" holes 2 on each side and 2 at the rear.
You will also see 4 about 1.25" holes at the corners. these are the locations for the factory scoop.
What I do is drill out the 6 smaller holes to 3/8" or there about,
locate the scoop to these holes and mark the 4 corner holes and drill them out.
The difference between the non original bolt pattern is that you will have 3 studs at the back
with only one in the back edge center hole.
Also you have to drill some of the holes (that doesent fit the original pattern)
from above for the scoop with the wrong hole pattern.
Then you have to use a bigger holesaw to cut the bigger accesholes to attach the nuts.
Put some masking tape on the hood place the scoop and measure from side to side,
across and from the back and the front.
You have to check for yourself and measure and measure.
When you are sure measure again.
A drilled hole in the wrong place is hard to recover.
On the 1969 the scoop should be the same color as the car and on the 1970 it should be black.
